Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) provide basic care to clients and assist them in activities of daily living that they may have trouble with on their own. CNAs also work with medical technology, like billing software, health information software, and medical record charting software.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide personal care assistance such as bathing, dressing, toileting, standing, walking, etc.
- Serve meals and help patients eat
- Take vital signs
- Turn or reposition patients
- Lift patients into beds, wheelchairs, exam tables, etc.
- Answer client call signals
- Clean and sanitize client areas and equipment
- Change bed sheets and restock rooms with necessary supplies
- Maintain accurate documentation of progress such as services performed
Other Responsibilities
- Completes required orientation as directed by facility
- Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment
- Follows facility Unusual Occurrence Protocol
- Respects cultural and religious practices of patients
- Upholds HIPAA regulations
- Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts
Position Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Certification as a CNA
- Minimum of one (1) year CNA experience
- Federal, State, and Zeal Clinical Staffing and facility required credentials current and on file
- Cognitive skills as related to the position
Working Conditions
Because clients need round-the-clock care, working hours include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. The number of patients assigned per shift will vary with facility and specialty, if applicable. CNAs spend considerable time walking, bending, stretching, and standing; they assist in patient transfers, so they must follow proper body mechanics to guard against injury. CNAs may face hazards from exposure to chemicals and infectious diseases. The use of disinfecting and sterilizing agents may cause damage to skin and respiratory system.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods
